TWILIGHT Vs MUPPETS: You Make the Call

November 28th, 2011 in Movies by 0 Comments

The holiday weekend is over and the vampires won the battle of the box office. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 continues to sell massive tickets to its loyal audience in its second week of release, raking in another $42 million according to stats published by Box Office Mojo.

That was more than enough to out do Backlot D’s weekend fave: The Muppets which opened to a respectable $29.5 million ($42 million across the five-day Thanksgiving window).

Insiders are calling Happy Feet Two a disappointment, but it still ranked #3 this week, out-pacing openers Arthur Christmas and the much-ballyhooed Hugo.

The Descendants added 404 screens to its release territories this week, including the Detroit area, and maintained its #10 spot on the charts during its second week. This helped it out-performe J. Edgar, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas and In Time which all ranked above it last week.

And still in limited release is My Week With Marilyn which did small numbers on less than 250 screens, including those in the Detroit area. It debuts on the charts at #12, but could climb as the release widens.
