Jonathan Lethem has sold the film rights to his comedic thriller novel As She Climbed Across the Table to Media Rights Capital. David Cronenberg will direct the film and Bruce Wagner is writing the script. Story involves a guy trying to win back his physicist girlfriend, who has dumped him in favor of a black hole she created in a lab experiment. [Deadline.com]

Joel David Moore has been cast as the male lead in director Bryan Fogel’s adaptation of his stage production Jewtopia. He joins a cast that includes Ivan Sergei, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Nicollette Sheridan, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Rita Wilson, Wendie Malick, Camryn Manheim, Peter Stormare, Lin Shaye, Christine Lakin, Hayes MacArthur, Bree Turner and Phil Rosenthal. Tim Hill is circling the job of directing the big-screen adaptation of William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray and Audrey Colman’s book Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow are writing the script. [Risky Business]

Nick Nolte has joined the cast of director Taylor Hackford’s adaptation of Donald Westlake’s character Parker. The movie, based on the novel Flashfire, is now slated for release on October 12, 2012 by FilmDistrict. Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez also star. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Jeff Nichols will direct Mud for Everest Entertainment from his own script. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan are cast in the movie about a charismatic figure and the 14 year-old kid who is determined to help him escape the law and reunite with his soul mate.
