Justin Malen has sold his comedy spec script Bastards to Paramount Pictures. Film focuses on two boys who learn their father was likely one of the many celebrities their mother bedded during her promiscuous days at Studio 54. [Deadline.com]

Rich Moore is set to direct the GG feature film Wreck-It Ralph for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The movie stars John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch in the adventures of a video game villain who invades a new game in hopes of being heralded as a hero. Robert Harris has sold the film rights to his upcoming novel The Fear Index to Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment. Book is a thriller about a scientist who devises a computer algorithm to master the world’s financial markets, but finds himself attacked in his home, causing repercussions for the global economy. Eran Creevy will write and direct the crime thriller Welcome to the Punch for Worldview Entertainment. James McAvoy and Mark Strong will star in the movie about a detective and his criminal nemesis who team up in the face of a larger conspiracy. Cameras role in London next month. [Variety (Paywall)]

Eva Mendes has signed on to appear in director Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama The Place Beyond The Pines for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Greta Gerwig is also circling a role in the film which stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. [Deadline.com]

Will Staples is negotiating to sell his screenplay Myth to 20th Century Fox. Sam Worthington is attached to produce and star, while James Cameron and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are also circling as producers. Word is the story concept is a big, science fiction and action concept. [Heat Vision]

Matthew Fox and Ed Harris are in talks for roles in director Marc Forster’s adaptation of Max Brooks’ novel World War Z for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. Julia Levy-Boeken recently joined the cast that already includes Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale. [Deadline.com]
